If you’re like most people, you probably don’t clean your dryer vent as often as you should. In fact, you may not even know how often you should be doing it! Cleaning your dryer vent once every 12 months is a good rule of thumb. There are, however, certain things you can do to assist delay the need for a full cleaning. 

How To Clean Your Dryer Vent (And Why You Should Do It Regularly)

Cleaning your dryer vent is important for preventing fires and ensuring that your dryer runs smoothly. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

1. First, disconnect your dryer from the power source. This is an important safety precaution that you should always take before beginning any type of cleaning project!

2. Next, using a vacuum with a long hose attachment, suck out any lint or debris that you can reach from the outside vent pipe. 

3. Once you’ve done that, remove the lint screen from your dryer and vacuum out the lint trap. Doing this regularly will help prevent lint buildup over time. 

4. Now it’s time to clean the inside of your dryer vent pipe. You’ll need a long-handled brush for this part of the process. Insert the brush into the vent pipe and scrub away any remaining lint or debris. 

5. When you’re finished, reattach the lint screen to your dryer and reconnect it to the power source. And that’s it—you’re done! Be sure to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
